Part 9
9) I want to develop a life-long learning system.
You probably have heard about the idea of life long learning? Yes, it is true that you learn as long as you live. Life is a constant learning process. however, only very few people have ever made the effort to create their own learning system. They rely on others to develop tools and methods for them. The average person turns to English language schools to tell them how to learn and as a result they never establish their own learning habits. Their line of thinking goes like this: "Why should I bother with developing my own learning system if I'm paying the English school to teach me? They are the English language experts and it's their job to make sure my English improves."
Well, the difference between the average person and a winner is that the winner takes much more responsibility for their success. They would not trust a school to offer them a learning system because as we have just established, learning is a life long process and you need to learn how to learn yourself. Since every person is different in many ways, you have to try out a number of methods, techniques and concepts thereby developing your own individual learning system. Learning English is an excellent opportunity to accomplish this.
10) I want to come up with my own reasons for learning English.
When you approach the English language from a winner's point of view, you will find that there many more reasons for learning English than the 9 motives you have just read. As you explore the depths and mysteries of the English language, you will forge a strong connection with the people who speak it. Who knows, you might even fall in love with an English native speaker and then you have a very tangible and new reason for learning the language altogether. Or maybe you become interested in a subject on which there is no or very little information in your mother tongue. Whatever your motivation for learning English is, make sure you have a clear understanding of it. As you remember, if you know why are you doing something, it will be much easier for to find out how you can do it.
