Part 6
4) I want to save time and work more efficiently.
As you know, most of the information regarding science, technology, business and any other field of study is available in English only. So if you want to keep abreast with the latest developments you need to use original sources of information rather than waiting until they become available in your native language. As a matter of fact, many publications will never be translated into your mother tongue so if you cannot use English as a second language, you limit your own sources of knowledge immensely. That's why you need to make it a habit of getting information "straight from the horse's mouth" -- using original and authentic sources instead of waiting until a translation becomes available. For example, most of the information offered by online encyclopedias like Wikipedia is in English. If you can read texts in English, you have a great advantage over people who can't.
In addition, most international companies use English as their corporate language so their co-workers can communicate and collaborate more efficiently. As a real winner you want to lead and manage such teams which means you need to develop excellent English language skills. At first you will have to invest time and effort into preparing workshops, presentations, meetings and company seminars in English. However, as with any other wise business decision, your investment will pay off and as a result you will increase your productivity and efficiency.
