Part 25
Master the 30/30 Challenge like a real winner!
As we have established earlier, learning English like a winner means you have to change some of your habits. Now, changing your habits might be simple but it's certainly not easy. Your goal is to surround yourself by spoken English every day even if you don't live in an English speaking country. How can you achieve this? The answer is you need to master the "30/30 Challenge". This means you have to listen to authentic English for at least 30 minutes for at least 30 consecutive days. Once you get through your first 30 days, you are on the road to success. Why? Because if you really listen to authentic English for at least 30 minutes for at least 30 consecutive days, you have developed a new and powerful habit: The habit of exposing yourself to spoken English every single day.
Now, 30 minutes a day might not seem like much but remember that you have to keep this exercise up for at least 30 days in a row. Just to make this crystal clear: If you want to become a successful English learner, you need to master the challenge of listening to English every single day without any interruption for a minimum of 30 days. So, if for some reason on one day you don't listen to English for at least 30 minutes you have to start your challenge all over again with day one. Here is an example of what your day could look like when you are on the 30/30 challenge: You get up and the first thing you do is switch on the TV set and tune in to an English language channel such as BBC, SkyNews, CNN or NBC. At this point it is not important what TV channel you use as long as its programmes are in English. After you have switched on the TV, you can start your daily routine -- brush your teeth, eat breakfast and get dressed for work or school. Don't bother about the TV, all you have to do is switch it on so you can hear it playing in the background. There is no need for you to sit in front of the screen and try to understand everything your hear. This would be impossible and therefore frustrating.
