Part 3
Winners know why they are learning English!
Before we start exploring a new language learning system, let's first answer the question why we are learning English. Maybe you are thinking that the answer is obvious but apparently it's not. As a matter of fact, the question "Why do I want to learn English?" is even more important than "How can I learn English?" Most people don't succeed in their efforts to learn English simply because they don't have a clear understanding of their motives. As with any other endeavor or project, the question "Why am I doing this?" is much more important than the question "How can I do this?" Once you know why you want to learn English, you will find the means and methods to achieve your goal. I have met thousands of people who were trying to learn English. Invariably those who knew exactly why they wanted to improve their English were the most successful. Those who were learning English because somebody else had told them to do so made very little progress, if any at all. That's why it makes perfect sense to re-examine your reasons for learning English and maybe some of the suggestions below will help you make your decision even stronger.
So why are
YOU learning English?
Of course you might be thinking that this question is a no-brainer. It's obvious why I want to learn English -- it's the world language and almost everyone in the world learns English nowadays". It is true, an ever growing number of people are learning English as a second language and English is spoken in so many countries that it has reached "global language status". However, you want to learn English just because everyone else learns English you will have a hard time achieving your goal.
Conformity is the reason for failure. If you want to learn English like a winner, you have to be more creative in coming up with reasons for your actions. When you were a school student, you learned English because your parents and teachers told you to do so and all the other students learned English too. So you didn't even ask yourself "Why should I learn English?" You tried to learn English because everyone around you tried to learn English. And you failed like most of those around you failed. Don't make that same mistake again. Find as many reasons why you should learn English as possible. The more reasons you have, the more successful you will be. Start learning English like a winner!
