| It's difficult to know how to learn a language. I think the most important thing is 'students have to enjoy what they are learning. just that. |

Hi
I am also like student by doing several mistakes in my writing without knowing that whether it is correct or not. I want to say that students should know to learn new things by learning without repeating the mistakes. We can correct ourself only during young age/student so that it will not forget the same till life time.
I'd rather learning English than other languages.
Rather than arguing with someone I want learn my English through proper way.
I rather like milk than coffee.
Thank you

Hi S.Shanthi,
It looks as if you are trying out the uses of the word 'rather' in your last post. Is that correct?
Your first two sentences use the word correctly, though some other small corrections are necessary: I'd rather learn English than any other language(s). Rather than arguing with someone, I want to learn to speak English the proper way.
I rather like milk than coffee is incorrect. We don't use 'rather' with 'like' to directly compare two things. Only certain terms can be used. These are possible: I'd rather tea than coffee. I'd rather have tea than coffee. I'd rather drink tea than coffee. I'd rather take tea than coffee. (very formal) _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Dear Mr.Torsten, I think Mrs. Sue Darwill was in right in lesson( I think No 1 or No 2.) She said: " More and more listening of English and more again. I think that's way. In my country people often say" There is no knowledge without torment" or " No pain no gain". Almost every day I listen exercise at English-store- test. When I was listening level-Hard , I was corectly annswering 70-80%. It's a big surprise for me. I didn't understand 30-40% words but I did resolve 70-80%. How to explain, I don't know. Maybe little intuition, and little watching questions about topic. My biggest problem is ignorance words in English and grammar. Best regards, Zerade. |

Dear Mr.Torsten, I'm sorry. I haven't had any new lessons since lesson 19. The English course on line ended up with lesson 19, didn't it? Best Regards, MPhung. |

He knocked a door asking for bite to eat, "we don't have anything to eat" a woman said and locked the door. The traveller picked up a stone and knocked the door "I can make a stone soup" he said. She allowed him to enter her house. He boiled some water and poured the stone on. Then he added carrots and potatoes which were brought by the woman's husband. A neighbor brought some vegetables, another fetched some chicken. The villagers gathered looking for a delicious smell. The traveller distributed the stone soup for them and ate some. Finally, he continued his journey and the villagers learnt to share their food to make some food for the whole village. |

| I have one suggestion. I volunteer at the Literacy Council in my hometown in the U.S. It is a reading program for people who can't read or cannot read very well. We also teach non-English clients. I am currently working with a Hispanic woman twice a week. She reads Spanish and English very well but her English speaking skills are limited. It is totally free and we do not ask for SS#s or any personal information. We have a lot of resources. Volunteers and students are free to select their meeting times and places. The volunteers receive some training but the program is a verbal/written/reading program. Check it out! |
