Hi Torsten,

I thought this is a wonderful idea. I should do this 30 minute a day challenge now and start building a good habit to improve my english communication skills. I've been learning english language for so many years and I don't see any improvement on this. And today I found out that the main reason is that I lack that habit and focus.

So thanks a lot Torsten. You are such a great help.

Learning English while driving in a car #784 (permalink) Fri Mar 19, 2010 22:28 pm   Learning English while driving in a car

Hi Foah and everyone,
I agree with you, but as Mr. Torsten said," You don't need to grasp every single word from any issue you listen to", but take the general idea of the subject.
I am like you I can't follow every single word; for example: in the news bulletin, but I take the general idea.

To talk about my own experience of listening to English from a native people, from the beginning I liked-still- listening and watching English songs and films, It's my habit Mr. Torsten ( I hate listening to Arabic songs and films!!), but not our great singer Om Kalthum ( an old Egyptian singer).Whatever, from my childhood I practise listening to English from cartoon especially classic ones, like: " Mickey mouse, Tom and Jerry...etc. From these and also English songs I learned a variety and a lot of words and phrases.

As for Mr. Torsten, I am not amazed of such great idea, because he always has them.
Regards

After discussing the question Do you want to improve your English? it's time for some action. If you follow the instructions below you will improve your English dramatically. Here is what you have to do for 30 consecutive days (If you fail to do the exercises on one day, you must start over again):

  • Listen to an authentic English audio resource for 15 minutes in the morning and again for 15 minutes in the afternoon or evening.

For example, you can switch on CNN or play a DVD while you're having breakfast. Later when you drive your car or go by tram or bus, you can listen to an audio book (CD or MP3). It's not crucial what exactly you listen to as long as you listen to it for at least 30 minutes throughout the day. At the same time 'listening' doesn't mean you have to concentrate very hard on understanding every single word. In fact it's a good idea while you're listening to focus on something else such as eating breakfast or driving your car.

  • Register on our forum (if you haven't done so yet) and write a summary of your listening experience and progress. Here you should tell us what you have listened to, how much you have understood and what keywords you remember. It's not necessary to compile a comprehensive and detailed report. It's quite sufficient to post a few sentences which we will amend so that you can improve your grammar, too.

Before you start, you should make sure you have access to enough authentic English audio resources.

Are you up for a challenge? Just bear in mind that if you don't participate in this experiment, then another month will go by without you having made any commitment to improving your English whatsoever. So, what have you got to lose? Give it a try.

    Hello,

I'm listening BBC and some words I understand and some not understand. Two men are speking about business, I think...they are speaking about problems which appear in the business and how can win that. One of them is said that you must be very persisting.
This was my report for now, I hope that next time report to be better.

    Hello Mr.Torsten.
You're idea is quite interesting, however I don't have enough time to watch movies which makes that I can't change my habits definitely.I'll try to listen to BBC when driving to work or when coming back home late in the evening. In this way ,I hope that I'll improve my English.
    Many thanks.
