Time vs. timing #2 (permalink) Sat Jul 01, 2006 2:04 am   Time vs. timing

Time = an indefinite period (usually marked by specific attributes or activities).

Timing = selection or the ability to select for maximum effect of the precise moment for beginning or doing something <haven't got my timing down>

Timing is an inappropriate word choice here.

Hi Blazya

The word down means "completely mastered" in this case and appears to be mainly American English.
http://dictionary.cambridge.org/define.asp?key=57995&dict=CALD
http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/down (click on 'down[4,adjective]', then look at definition 4)
There is also the expression "down pat", which has a similar meaning:
http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=down+pat&r=66

In other words, haven't got my timing down = my timing isn't perfect yet -OR- I haven't mastered my timing yet..

The correct answer is 'There's no time' and that's exactly what the system shows. You probably mixed it up with 'there's no timing'.

Your answer is correct.

It sounds like there may be an error with the test, but (a) 'There's no time' is the only correct answer.

Dear Mr. Torsten

I am sure that my answer was "there's no time"
I was going very smooth (without any error) from test#.16 (where am I?) to test#.24 (Response-3)

but suddenly system showed this error that "there's no time" is incorrect and the correct answer is "there's no timing"

anyways no problem at all I will make another trial tomorrow but kindly check that it might be a system/networking error.

great thanks in advance
