Send up blind alleys - lead astray #2 (permalink) Thu Nov 04, 2004 21:29 pm   Send up blind alleys - lead astray

A blind alley is a situation that is not effective or will not produce results. So, when send you readers up blind alleys you lead them astry.

Because "a blind alley" is a fixed expression with an idiomatic meaning while "a twisted alley" is not.

To lead someone astray means misleading them, sending them in a wrong direction

The skill of a good storyteller, is in getting the reader to feel certain they know what is happening, only to find out that they have been lead up a " blind alley " by skilled plot-weaving.

Pretty much like the guy who is haunting these Forums trying to sell insurance.

We haven't been led up any blind alleys by his pathetic tales.
