Hi!

When I click on the last post of a multipage thread from the main forum’s page, I always is transferred to the first page of the thread, not to the last, as I would expect.

Hi Tamara, as far as I know the option 'last post' does not exist. The navigation panel of a thread that spans several pages looks like this:

Goto page 1, 2, 3 ... 9, 10, 11 Next

So a click on the number 11 will take you to the last page.

Does this answer your question?
Regards,
Torsten

Hi Torsten,

This forum is based on the 'forum engine' which is widely used on the Internet.
From my own experience, usually all links (referring to last (most fresh) posts in forum's parts) that you can see from the main page, work properly.

P.S. If you like, I can give you links to similar forums (with the same forum's engine), but they are in runet zone.

Hi Tamara, could you please elaborate on forum engine -- what exactly is it? Our forum runs on phpBB which we have discussed in this thread.

Torsten

Hi Torsten

This is exactly what I mean. The forum’s platform.

Please, try to click the links on users last posts that you can see from the main page (this is the function 'to view the latest post') - for example, on this forums:

stream-arena.ru/forum/
forum.podolsk.ru/
javatalks.ru/
bitquake.org.ru/convert.php?url=http://developing.ru/forum/
or any similar

and you can easily make you sure that visible from the main page links, I told about (to the last users' post of multipage threads), work properly.

Tamara

Hi Tamara, antigorod uses phpBB which is identical with our software, only that they use the Russian version, of course. It doesn't make sense to put on the main forum page that leads to the latest message of a thread because a user wouldn't know what thread to go first to.
phpBB provides you with a function called View posts since last visit which is available on Russian forums as well as on English language ones. Your initial question was about how to get to the last message of a thread that spreads over several pages. In the forums you are referring to this function is identical to our Goto 1, 2, 3 ... page feature. For example, if you want to read the latest message in this thread, you simply hit page 8 which is the same on your Russian forums. As you can see, you can get to the last page of a thread by making one click from the forum's index page. Can you see the Goto .... page link? If so, simply select the highest number just as you would in a book index.

Regards,
Torsten

I am not so sure abour that. Even more so, this forum displays, as well, the function 'View latest post' when you point you mouse to the visible (latest post) links - but misleads Smile In the case when thread is multipage (long = popular)

(Also, as you can see, on anti-gorod they have added the name of the thread to the visible-from-the-main-page 'latest-post' links. Very convenient, isn't it?)

I know that. Thank you.

Ok.

Regards,
Tamara

P.S. Sorry, I’ve removed the link to anti-gorod from my post, as the forum is non-moderated and full of use of ‘uncontrolled vocabulary’. Just to not publish it Smile

Hi Tamara, if you click on the link view lastest post on our forum you can read the latest post just like you can with those Russian forums. Why are you saying our link is misleading when it takes you exactly where it says -- to the latest post?

Eсли Вы прямо сейчас наведете курсор Вашей мыши, скажем, на указатель возле последнего поста _vivien_ в разделе «What do you want to talk about?», то всплывет обычная подсказка View latest post.

Tamara

P.S. Sorry for using Russian.

OK Tamara, you are right, some of the threads don't lead to the latest post but the first post instead. I'll have to re-program this function. Thanks a lot for pointing out this error.

Oh, no... Sorry... Again, instead of adding a new post, I've just 'edited' the last my ... by deleting/replacing its text....
If possible, Slava, could you restore it (my old previous post)?...

(Hi, Slava Smile )

Now you've done it and we can see the threads' names. Thanks a lot for your great care of us! (…, sinners Smile ).

I’d just say that if thread names added for the link were displayed in a smaller font we
(1) could see more letters of the names Smile
(2) in most cases it probably wouldn’t require three lines for the link description,
(3) it wouldn't 'suppress' (by its comparatively huge size) three other (small-font) parts of the link (nickname, date and in the very end) that much as now. (At least, in my subjective eyes).

But, of course, if the current format is good for other members, I’ll get used to it in a week (or two Smile)

Tamara

Perhaps, Mon Aug 28 Smile
I think, I said 'thanks' to you for correction of the links-to-last-post-from-the-main-page on the same day when you did that. Smile
