Hello,
Could you please double-check why "have learned" is marked incorrect in this Question 1? As far as I know, the Present Perfect tense fits in this test sentence as well because there is no specific time mentioned.
Thank you.
Best wishes, Bhikkhu1991a. |

Hello Beeesneees,
Thank you for referring me to Torsten's answer: Learned vs. learnt, message #2. However, that is beside the point because my question is why the Present Perfect tense “have learned or have learnt” is marked incorrect in this test sentence. Could you please assess whether the Present Perfect tense “have learned or have learnt” fits this test sentence?
Thank you.
Best wishes, Bhikkhu1991a. |

Hello Bhikku,
My apologies for missing the point of your message.
You are correct that use of the present perfect tense would be an alternative way of providing a correct answer. I presume that the reason it is not marked as correct is that the computer program has not been given that option because the test writer didn't think of that at the time. Hopefully it can be changed. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

When I see you write 'hopefully', Bev, that tells me you do not have access to this test. If that's case, I can't help but wonder whether this test will ever be fixed.
It often seems that having oversights, typos and errors in the tests pointed out was welcomed back when this site was new, but that over the years a stubborn resistance to correcting some of the tests has taken root -- even when an error is glaringly obvious. :-( _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |
