Hi Neven,
(to take long) or (to take too long) means (to take long time)
Also when you say (Don't take too long.) means (Don't take a long time.) or (Don't be late.)
Hope this leave you well.

Regards,
Nola

Children is plural, not 'flural'. Also, the word 'exline' does not exist. Your sentence should read 'Could you please tell me' or 'Could you please explain to me...'

Hallo Mr.Torsten,
You wrote:

I would like to know could I say this phrase so: ' Could you please explain me (without to)'? Or the meaning of the sentence will be wrong?
Could it be so: if we use this sentence with TO, it means, that we are talking to a person, who something don't understand.
if we use this sentence without To-it means to explain the people's anatomism
Could you correct me, please.

Mr. Torsten,
I reread your explanation and I'm totally confused, I can't understand why we use 'TELL ME' (without TO. Why we can't say "tell to me"?), but 'EXPLAIN TO ME' (with to).
Please, help me to deal with it

Finish or end? #12 (permalink) Fri Mar 12, 2010 22:01 pm   Finish or end?

Thank's for test.
My result was 3 correct answers :(, for my regret.
I had't rad "finish vs. end" befor took the test.
The errors was in:
2. They wanted their daughter to improve her social skills and sent her to the famous finishing school in Switzerland.
I used ENDING - thought it the right adjective for the "school"
4. Sadly their marriage of 25 years ended in divorce.
I used ENDS for reason "why to use past form ? may be it(marrige) endS now"
5 It didn't take long for the children to finish off the cakes and pastries that had not been eaten at the party.
END - looked write for me :) as they(children) killed the cakes
6 He thought they would all share the cost of the meal but unfortunately he ended up paying for everybody.
ENDS - was incorrectly used in present, whrere the first verb "thought" was in past
8 You could tell the time by him because he always finished work at exactly the same time every day.
so as 6 answer - "could" is in past, and the right form was verb+ed
9 and 10 - jast zero

Now I'm going to read the aticle :)

Torsten,

I've got 8 correct, but there is a side question always bothers me, question-5: "It didn't take long for the children to finish off the cakes...." what's the different if we don't use off after "finish"?
