Hi,

The word "attain" has a number of synonyms: accomplish, achieve, reach, gain. What's the difference in usage of these words. Could somebody explain?

Many thanks,

Greta

Hi Greta,

Probably the best way to define these verbs is to use them with particular nouns:

Quote:
accomplish, achieve, reach, gain

accomplish a task - complete it successfully
reach the top of a mountain - get to the top
achieve success - be successful in experiencing success
gain popularity - become popular
