Hi all,

With the meaning of "the person that lives in a particular place", "inhabitant" and" resident" in these sentences are interchangeable?

1. A town of 15,000 inhabitants/residents.
2. A resident/ an inhabitant of France.
3. There were confrontations between local residents/inhabitants and the police.

Thanks
K

Hi Khahn

Why not just add your question here?

Regarding your sentences:
Quote:
1. A town of 15,000 inhabitants/residents. both OK
2. A resident/ an inhabitant of France. I prefer resident
3. There were confrontations between local residents/inhabitants and the police. I prefer residents

What do we call residents of Manchester, England? How about residents of Edinburgh, Scotland?
