Hi,

As you know,
With "morning", we say "In the morning", but "on the morning of that day".
With "early" and "late", we say: In the early morning. So, if I have: ......early morning of sth or ...night of sth
How to use the preposition?
Please choose the correct answer(s). Thanks.
a. In the early morning of that day.
b. On the early morning of that day.
c. In an early morning of that day.
d. On an early morning of that day.
e. In the night of that day.
f. On the night of that day.
g. In a night of that day.
h. On a night of that day.

.
Correct:
a. In the early morning of that day.

Technically correct, but awkward:
e. In the night of that day.

Hi Yankee,

Can I say:

a.In one early morning of that month.
b.In one night of that month.
c.On a morning of that month.
d.On one morning of that month.

to refer "one (early) morning", "one night" of that month,is it correct? If not,how to express the idea "one" ,as in : In a night in May.

(because you have replied that the remainder of my sentences except (a) and (e) are incorrect?)

Thanks

You should use "the" because of of that day

In the morning of that day

One is not correct with that day

Hi Khahn

I don't like any of your further examples. Please put them into complete sentences if you want additional comment.

For now, here are some options:

One early morning that month we were awoken by an earthquake.
One night that month we were awoken by an earthquake.
One morning last May we were awoken by an earthquake.
