Sounds a bit tricky and evokes additional questions to point the sense.

Tried to guess but failed. What is that it that is starving and how often it happens?

I've done the test called : "On the phone" and my result was 7 out of 10. I've made a mistake at the sentence : Charlie: Well, it all started when my wife ......... out on me." I didn't know the expression "walked out". And because I didn't understand that sentence I couldn't solve the next sentence neither.

Hi Julia,

In this test I was trying to use examples of 'ordinary' conversation. Charlie is not happy because his wife has left him. The popular expression 'walk out on someone' suggests that they leave the other person by walking out of the front door and going away.

I hope that helps.

Hi Alan!

Thank you for your explication. I have one more question related to the expression.
When a person walks out on someone means that the person leaves for a period of time or he leaves for ever?

Thanks.

Hi Julia,

There is usually no indication from the expression 'walk out on someone' whether this means temporarily or for ever. The only way this can be shown is by additional comments:

He walked out on her for good (for ever).
