GRE Issue 222

Learning for learning's sake is an outdated concept. Today, education must serve an ulterior purpose and be directed toward clear goals.

I do not quite understand what the exact meaning of ''learning for learning's sake'' is. I will appreciate your kindness if some proper explanitions or apt examples be given to clarify it.

Thanks a lot!

It means learning something new, just to learn something new. Without a purpose for using that knowledge to further your career. Just your brain!
