Dear teachers,

What is the meaning of "wear well" in:

1. This carpet is wearing well, isn't it?
2. You're wearing well.

Thanks

Liking verbs (wearing well, isn't it?) Mon Aug 21, 2006 9:55 am  Liking verbs (wearing well, isn't it?)

Hi Quoc
.
First a question: What is a "liking verb"? Did you mean "linking"?

A carpet that is wearing well is withstanding use (rather than immediately "wearing out" Laughing).

A person who is wearing well is most likely withstanding a difficult situation or criticism well.

Hi,

Just llike to add to Amy's response: to me 'You're wearing well' means despite your age you are looking fit and well.

Good morning, Alan

Yes, I agree with that as a meaning, too.
