A large number of... - singular or plural? #1 (permalink) Tue Aug 22, 2006 19:10 pm   A large number of... - singular or plural?

1. "a large amount of ---" (e.g. sugar, money, water etc.)
2. "a large number of ---" (e.g. students, people, houses etc.)

I know the sentence1 is for uncountable noun, so it takes a
singular-form verb however,
the sentence2 is for countable noun, Does this take a singular-form verb or plural-form verb??

Thank you!

P.S. What is "The large ---" insted of "A large ---"?

Thought I just asked it. Answer is in the other threat titled "singular or plural (a cluster of grapes)".
