Hi Honorfield,

You have to see this sentence as part of the conversation. In that sense the speaker is explaining only what he wanted to say and for that reason it's not the speed he's talking about but the simple fact of what he was trying to say because the sound of the bells had stopped him saying anything.

I had done my test about "The Bells" but I not yet listen about Sue's lesson and Raymond's story....
