Hi teachers,

What is the difference between "He's so clever" and "He's very clever"?

Is it different when we use "very" or "so" to modify an adjective?

Thanks.

Hi Rosalisa,

So and very have come to mean the same when they qualify an adjective in conversational language but technically 'so' is only half the story. It should be: He is very clever meaning he is extremely clever but He is so clever needs to be followed by: that he knows all the answers.
