Special construction: Dared not #1 (permalink) Tue Aug 29, 2006 16:42 pm   Special construction: Dared not

Dear teachers,

Normally:

Did not = Didn't

So, please read:

He dared not spend the money lest someone should ask where he had got it.

dared not =?

Please help me.

Thanks
Quoc

Special construction: Dared not #2 (permalink) Tue Aug 29, 2006 18:09 pm   Special construction: Dared not

Hi Quoc

Dared not is a special construction and as such is not contracted.

A "standard" construction with contraction would be:

He didn't dare spend the money ....
