What is the difference between "wish" and "hope"? Mon Sep 11, 2006 19:04 pm  What is the difference between "wish" and "hope"?

Dear teachers,

Please read:

a.I wish he has a nice day tomorrow.
b.I wish he have a nice day tomorrow.
c.I wish he had a nice day tomorrow.
d.I wish he has a nice day today.
e.I wish he have a nice day today.
f.I wish he had a nice day today.

I think only (a), (b), and (f) are correct. Is it right?

I don't like any of the sentences with wish.
Is wish the word you're actually trying to practice?

Yes, teacher.

The use of "wish" is incorrect here? So, can you suggest another word instead of "wish" in this case?

I'd suggest hope instead of wish and then the following sentences would be OK:

a.I hope he has a nice day tomorrow.

d.I hope he has a nice day today.

f.I hope he had a nice day today.

If you were trying to make some sentences with wish + an unreal situation:

- I wish he was/were rich. (but he isn't)
- I wish my husband earned more money. (but he doesn't)

Dear teachers,
It is correct if I say:

1.I hope he have a nice day tomorrow.
2.I hope he have a nice day today.
