Indirect:A year before, a year earlier,the year before, the year earlier, the previos year, a previous year(2)

Direct: A year ago.

(2)
Indirect: a year before, a year earlier OK

the year earlier I'd say NO

the year before, the previous year OK, but these don't necessarily mean 12 months ago. They could mean 6 months ago, for example.

a previous year NO, this could be any previous year, not just last year.
