Hi
| Quote: |
What are the things that lift your spirits or stir your heart?
Do you appreciate (as I do) simple things like a posy of wild flowers, a mellow autum afternoon or a picnic by a river or do you need grander and stronger emotions?
Imagine you have to convince someone (not yourself, I hope) that life is worth living. What is there in life to live for, to be happy about, to enjoy, would you say?
For every little thing you come up with, I’m sure I can find another one! |
The things that lift my spirits or stir my heart are quite simple. I hope all the people around me are at peace. Really, it is not necessary to take much in living. For me, living with just enough thigns is enough. I don't need to take much more. :D
That's fantastic to have just a picnic by the river or even a picnic indoors :D. I don't need grander or stronger emotions. Being just with family and friends is the best happiness of all.
I remember Socrates, Greek philosopher, saying one sentence " Life that is not examined is not worth living." We should really think what we live for, enjoy and are happy about. My answer for that is I love to live to experience the gift of this precious life. I really love to see people around me feeling at peace and being full with humanity. About myself, I want to be happy because I was born into this world already so this means, this is a gift. So why not accept it and make it best? For me, problems come and go like waves. Then, it is not quite the thing that can ruin my life.I can't remember how many times I have cried but I can remember what makes me happiest. :D No matter how strong the wind blows, the mast has to be strong upright there.
Thanks for the best topic. :D _________________ If you want to change the world, be one of the change. |

Hi Conchita
The thing that lifts my spirits or stirs my heart is when I kiss my Mother's hands ,and the best feeling when she prays for me and for my family and when she asks Allah to protect us .
When she does it , my heart is refreshed and all problems in this crazy life be disappeared ..

Aren’t I glad I started this thread -- you do say the most beautiful and stirring things! You are both very lucky to be able to value the great blessings you are given. Just a few more of life’s little (but precious) gifts:
– autumn leaves – an abandoned windmill – The Beatles’ “Yesterday” song – an old olive tree – the smell of fried onions ...

Oh, definitely! This song is one of my all time favourites, together with ballads like:
What a Wonderful World Somewhere Over the Rainbow Smile (though your heart is aching) Fields of Gold Les feuilles mortes (Autumn Leaves) Oh, Danny Boy Bridge Over Troubled Water ... ... |

Hi Conchita!
If you see a windmill in Spain, do you also see a knight with a poor figure? :) I mean, seeing a windmill in the Netherlands you also see a field ful of tulips because, anyhow, it depends on another.

I was going to say that there are no more knights in the modern world. Yet, as an afterthought, I think there might still be a few: knights in shining (or tarnished) armour -- or knights in chariots, like you! :)
PS: 'As an afterthought, I think' -- yet another redundancy! |

Hmmm.....! Conchita, I dread this overtaxes my poor English or capabilities! Do you think that knights make a poor figure nowadays? Never mind whether in shining armours or glamorous chariots?

 or what?
Having had a certain look into my dictionary I must admit that I?m very shocked? Did you really mean redundant? :?

Yes, I meant 'redundant' in the sense of 'superfluous' or 'unnecessary'.
Sorry I shocked you! What does your dictionary say -- I'm very curious now? :) :o |

Hi, everybody! This really is a wonderful topic for discussion. Thanks, Conchita!
When I'm down, music is what really cheers me up. When I've lost all faith in life (which rarely happens as I'm a happy person), the presentation on this site is a great source of reassurance and inspiration.
Pictures of cute animals always make me smile (well, this is true for everyone :) ). The night sky outside of the big city, full of stars, gives me the feeling that nature's beauty alone is worth living for.
In life, I treasure all the moments of happiness I spend with my friends and family. I respect the knowledgeable people and try to become like them through hard studying. I value what I have but also try to achieve even more.
I could go on for hours because even taking part in this discussion makes me feel better :)

- the blurred and surreal shapes of trees through the mist - the still, dark water of a pond - a train shuttling by - dry stone walls criss-crossing the fields - an old chapel with mossy walls - the first snowflakes swirling around - a squirrel gathering nuts for the winter - the melancholy rasp of a saxophone - the trail of the rising moon on a lake
