Meaning of "Tap into fruits" #1 (permalink) Tue Sep 26, 2006 9:06 am   Meaning of "Tap into fruits"

The birds(macaws) boast large, powerful beaks that easily crack nuts and seeds, while their dry, scaly tongues have a bone inside them that makes them an effective tool for tapping into fruits.

what's the meaning of "tap into fruits" ? Thanks.

Hi Floratang,

Tap into in your sentence means literally that the birds use their beaks to tap into/break into the centre of the fruits.
In a figurative sense tap into can also mean gain access to as in: tap into information available on the internet meaning use that source of information for your benefit.
