Negative statements

You need: a personal pronoun
the verb 'to do'
not
the infinitive

Example: You do not go.
There is also a short form: You don't go.

Be careful: The short form is mostly used in spoken language: 'do not'--> 'don't'
'does not'--> 'doesn't'
In written language please employ the 'long form'.

I do not speak Spanish.
You do not write poems.
He does not work.
She does not like coffee.
It does not drink milk.
We do not take the train.
You do not use this.
They do not say good morning.

Smile How about you? Can you build negative statements? Write down a few sentences.

By the way, in Unit 10 we are going to review the question words.

Hi! I would be most interested to see here lessons about conjunctive mood and conditional1,2,3, and about different kinds of question.

Hi Lyalya,

Many thanks for your suggestion. This section is called English for Beginners and it clearly takes some practice to get to the conditionals. That's why Sunny is concentrating on covering the basic grammar points.

Hi swathi,

Your sentences are fine, but I'd say "Here are some sentences" and "I don't tell a lie" or "I don't tell lies".
