I understand that in the following paragraph the verb copy means to repeat or read out loud. Would you use the word in the same way?

The first is something I requested he do everyday and that is to take a few paragraphs from an article or such and to just sit and copy it for fifteen minutes.

Hi Torsten

The word copy can be used to mean "imitate" or "mimic" which could involve copying the way a person speaks, for example. But I think it sounds more like the guy in your sentence was told to transcribe text -- i.e., no speaking involved.

Hi,

Yes, I think the same. Probably the phrasal verb copy out would make the meaning clearer. Perhaps it could be an exercise in improving handwriting.

Now I remember that you can also copy information from a book or another resource, meaning you write it down...
