Hi Torsten
The word copy can be used to mean "imitate" or "mimic" which could involve copying the way a person speaks, for example. But I think it sounds more like the guy in your sentence was told to transcribe text -- i.e., no speaking involved.

Hi,
Yes, I think the same. Probably the phrasal verb copy out would make the meaning clearer. Perhaps it could be an exercise in improving handwriting.

Now I remember that you can also copy information from a book or another resource, meaning you write it down...
