Hi Jes?s
Hope you're enjoying your evening. ;)
| Quote: |
| 2.- He doesn?t like playing neither football nor rugby. |
This sentence has a double negative so it's grammatically incorrect. You can use neither ... nor this way:
He likes playing neither football nor rugby.
| Quote: |
a.- Ann?s beautiful black cat.
b.- Beautiful black Ann?s cat. |
In sentence a.) the cat is beautiful and black In sentence b.) Ann is beautiful and black
In both sentences, the cat belongs to Ann. 8)

Oh my god!
What a big mistake!
Thank you very much, Amy!
By the way, could I use 'either' instead of 'neither'?
'He doesn?t like playing either football or rugby'
I think it sounds a little bit awkward.

Hi Jes?s
Yes, that's how you would use either ... or. You don't really need the word either unless you want to add a little emphasis. The sentence is just fine using only the word or.

Hi, From the previous response I already know that the next sentence is incorrect because of double negative: She has not participated neither in previous urology clinical studies nor in our studies.
...And what sounds better in English?
She has participated neither in previous urology clinical studies nor in our studies. or She has not participated in previous urology clinical studies or in our studies. or maybe :-) She has not participated in previous urology clinical studies and in our studies.
Thank you for your reply.

All are grammartically correct. However, the last one has a slightly different meaning than the other two.
I'd go with the second one, just for the sake of its simplicity and clarity.
Hope you could get a better answer from someone else. |

Thank you for your comment. Sorry for that. I was not sure if after such a long period (Sep 30, 2006 ) after the previous question, someone will look at this thread. Therefore I tried another one.
Sorry. Toja |
