I'm not supersticious. And to all the supersticious people frightened by the number 13 I would like to said that in my country this is considered the luckiest number and that here (in Italy) the number 17 is the symbol of bad luck so that just to be sure in our planes these numbers have been both eliminated.

Hello to all those who fear 13,
I am not superstitious but I have set aside 1%, because there are always a couple of sides of everything. Don't fear, instead take this number as a lucky one. The numbers won't do any harm to you. Number 2 comes after 1, and 3 before 4.

My lucky number is 13 and my yahoo ID is <noren13>. Why do people fear the no. 13? I sometimes wonder. Just take this number as any other numbers like 666, 7, 10 etc.

If you are triskaidekaphobia (the fear of number 13), what I suggest you is contact the experts or doctors related to in this field etc.

Your question interested me a lot and suggested me to make a little research about it.
It seems tha the origin of the superstition concerning the number 13 (it is considered particularly unlucky to be 13 at dinner, not only because a normal plate set is composed of 12 pieces only) comes from the Last dinner of Jesus. So that the superstition says that the first to get up will be the first to die.
The number 13 is also associated with the downfall of the Templar order. The templar knights were arrested and all their properties were confiscated on 13 october 1307.
While in the italian culture the number 17 is traditionally considered unlucky because one of the anagrams of the roman number XVII (17) is VIXI that in Latin means "I lived" or "I am a dead person"; and because according to the Bibble, the Flood started the 17th day of the second month. Number 17 can be also associated with the french king Louis XVII his miserable end by the French Revolution. It also seems that this number was also hated by the ancient Greek pitagora followers because it is between number 16 and number 18 that were considered mathematically perfect (4x4 and 6x3).
A superstion also says that the most inauspicious day of the week is Friday because Jesus died on Friday.

Downfall of the templar order should be considered an auspicious event, because they were terribly deviated sect and exercising satanic rituals as far as I remember. Also Babi thinks Friday is the inauspicious day because Jesus died on Friday. As a Muslim I believe Jesus was taken to the heavens not died and will come back to our planet again as a Muslim to fight and kill anti-Christ or Dajjal. I don't understand the Catholics they believe Jesus is son of God, and then talk about his death. We believe he is a prophet and will die after his second coming after completing his second mission. Moreover, Friday is an auspicious day in Islam. So there should be nothing wrong with Friday 13.

As I wrote in my first message I am not supersticious, what I wrote in my last message was just the result of my research about the origin of the supersticion concerning number 13.
I believe that religion and supersticion cannot go together. And as a Catholic I believe that the death of Jesus was part of God's progect for saving us (that's why I don't think it can be seen as inauspicious).
And that the fact that Jesus is son of God and God himsef and that he accepted to follow His Father will and die is the biggest proof of His love.
Of course God didn't need to give us a demonstration of it. Who are we to pretend it? But I think that, in His Wisdom, He did to show us that love is the answer.
I don't know if it can help you to understand our point of view, but don't forget that religion depends on faith not on understanding.

I think that in unlucky situation, there must be a lucky thing arisen. It means "every cloud has a silver lining", "If the sky fall, we shall catch larks" or "Misforture has its senses" or "no great loss without small gain"..... I am optimistic. You try to think that, it comes true!

I am not superstitious at all, I think everything it's in your mind, also what you've been told in your childhood. as a result, you believe in superstitions. In fact some people believe that if they do or don't do certain things some bad or good luck will come to them or they will be blessed or cursed. However human being imagination can be very widespread about things that you can't see or touch. Therefore there are some people who might say they are superstitious.

As for the role of Jesus, according to Christianity -- Catholics, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, and every other Christian sect... not to mention the Bible:

Jesus is the only begotten Son of God
Jesus is part of the Holy Trinity: He is the Son portion of Father/Son/Holy Spirit
Jesus is the way, the truth and the life: no one comes to the Father but by Him
If a person (anyone) repents of his sins and asks Jesus to come into his life, that person will be saved -- to Christians this is known as "salvation". The key to it is belief: belief that Christ's blood pays for our sin and that the acceptance of his gift on the cross is enough to avoid eternal damnation.

Many puzzle at the meaning of the Trinity, but I think of it like this:

God is ice
Jesus is water
The Holy Spirit is water vapor

All are God in the same way that ice/water/water vapor are all H2O.

To a Christian, the path to salvation is fairly simple:

1. Repent of your sins
2. Ask Jesus into your heart as your savior
3. Try to emulate him (though nobody can do it, we should at least try

Though... in my opinion, faith is more important than good works

What are the main teachings of Jesus? Here are a few:

1. Love God
2. Love your neighbor as yourself
3. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
4. Honor the 10 Commandments (don't murder, don't steal, etc.)
5. Help others

Here are some of Jesus's nicknames:

- The Lamb of God
- The Bright Morning Star
- Alpha and Omega
- Emmanuel
- Yeshua
- El Shaddai
- The Great Physician
-

We believe that he gave his life for us. He died as a man -- God incarnate -- on the cross carrying the entire burden of mankind -- of all who lived, all who live and all who ever will live. He died and rose three days later and ministered to his Disciples and others to show them what had been accomplished. Doubting Thomas didn't believe it, so at Jesus's prompting Thomas felt the holes in his hands (probably his wrists, actually) and the stab-wound in his side. What did Thomas say? He said, "My Lord and my God!"

Jesus replied (paraphrasing) "You have seen and now you believe. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe."

Before he went up to heaven, he gathered his peops together and gave the Great Commission:

(again, paraphrasing) "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. You are to go out into the world and bring people to me, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And yea, I am with you always, even until the end of the age." With that, Jesus rose and left his Disciples (who at that moment became Apostles) to the task of spreading the Gospel and bringing people to Christ.

So it is that he died on the Cross and arose to defeat death and, after a few days on earth in his heavenly guise, went up to rule the world at the right hand of Yahweh, God the Father.

He knocks at the doors of our hearts, requesting entrance. His gift is eternal life and it is free. To borrow from a New Testament verse, Jesus peddles the water of life.

Christians await his return, when he will right all wrongs and call us home to be with him in paradise.

How does the Bible end? Check it out:

He who testifies to these things (Jesus) says,
"Yes, I am coming soon."

Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God's people. Amen.
Many like me appreciate how Muslims respect Jesus as a prophet and generally someone to be revered. To Christians, He is no less than God Himself. But at least we can basically agree that he set a good example for us.

Are you superstitious? (How do you behave on Friday 13th?) #147 (permalink) Fri Mar 27, 2009 9:08 am   Are you superstitious? (How do you behave on Friday 13th?)

I am not a great man and (thus) do not presume to start a revolution.

But shit, SHIT(!!!!), given all the Muslims and Christians who have died in fealty to their respective religions...

Can Muslims and Christians not find a common denominator... namely, this one (these, I guess. This could be really big, and I hope it reaches the Papacy and all leaders of Islam)?

1. There is one God. Be he called by the name of Yahweh or Allah, He is one God.
2. Jesus Christ was God incarnate -- sent to earth to save mankind and to show us how to live.
3. Mohammed was God's principle prophet, who lived in a time of darkness (Dark Ages) to bring further light to the world by (further) showing us how to live and how to love, revere and follow God -- the one God.

HAS NOBODY MENTIONED THIS?!?!?!?!

Islam and Christianity are NOT mutually exclusive!

Muslims, did Mohammed say anywhere in the Qur'an that Jesus could not have been God incarnate? Did Mohammed doubt Jesus's divinity?

Did Mohammed say anything contradicting the Ten Commandments or Jesus's teaching, namely:

-Treat others well -- the way you'd like to be treated
- Love/honor God
If not, why are we fighting.. at least on the grounds of religious differences?!!!

How many lives would be saved if Muslims and Christians agreed to accept Christ's divinity and Mohammed's teachings?! HOW MANY?!

Please respond -- let's get this out to everyone!

We can live and believe together! And it's starting here!

May the record-keepers call me Saint Mullah Thomas Wahed The Great, founder of the unified ChristIslamic Brotherhood of Man.

Torsten, could you do me a favor and start a topic titled "Christians And Muslims United"... And make my previous post the first post in that new thread? Thou art the man, habiby!

I'm on my iPhone and cannot copy/paste that post.

Danke schoen, mein broder.

Somebody has to earnestly and honestly fight to bridge our differences, and damn it all, i'm going to try to do it.

Surely President Obama will fund an enterprise that seeks to bring us -- all 3.5 billion of us -- together. Why not make this my life's mission? If I go there hopefully I'll spread the word before my head is cut off.
