| Hi, Torsten. It's a good question.I was in my childhood because all around me were. But it didn't last long.I grew up and I started to ask for explanations .I wasn't pleased with the answers I was given so I figered it out there was no logic explanation .In Romania when you see a black cat crossing the street in front of you the superstition says you must get back 3 steps so your day can be ruined.Another superstition and a new one for me it's that you mustn't wash your wedding dress after the wedding ,a whole year, otherwise you will get pregnant.Very silly I might say, but it's very amusing one. Bye. |

Hi Torsten, My national culture is originated from China and I think I'm really superstitious. I often go to pagoda for praying good things for my family. My mother and my wife usually worship the ancestor on fifteenth day of lunar month. I will not do important things on Friday 13th, I think it's an unfortunate day. How about you ? Best regards |

Hi Sue
Your asking me if I'm superstitious? My answer is, I'm not superstitious. I simply know superstitious are events that will happen if you will agree and do the things required base on your personal beliefs. An why I'm not, because first superstitious has no bases, it's created by a person after he had experienced the good things that happened in his life. Second it's just a sayings probably from traditions of any culture created by depraved mind because of sin.
Sue, I'll tell you the truth of the matter is that, all things happenning in this world and in every human being was already appointed before the time, I mean before creation it was predetermined, like for example is, before I became a member of this forum, it was certained that this topic or question was planned by God, and this will bring it to pass. I believe the sovereignity of God and His perfect will to my life and the life of others as well.
thank you fil
If you want some further expalantion you can ask me. |

Hi all, I agree with smiling09. Superstition is something related to the custom in our country, Vietnam. Don't you believe the fate, nor a supernatural power? If so, please explain the questions below. I have a close friend. She was born in a poor family of farmers. Her parents tried their best to work for living. They never dared rest for their hope of a better life. However, the life was not as they'd expected.Their children were often sick. One day, an old woman told them that they had a problem with their kitchen and asked them to move it to another place. And they should make an altar to offer three Kitchen Gods. They followed, and everything becomes much better since then. I don't know whether it is a superstition. Someone said it was the time their fate had changed; and God or Buddha helped them by making that woman visit them. For you, why their life has become better and better since the woman appeared? Don't tell me that is a coincidence. |

I'm a bit superstitious. Here in Bulgaria we think when we put the handbag on the floor we will be poor after that. When a black cat pass in front of you you have to go back three steps backward. Possibly this is not allways thrue. It dipends on the nationality and many other things. Somethimes the situation is very funny. But here the questin is: When you drive your car and a black cat pass in front of you, what will you do ? Best regards, Galia |

I am not superstitious as I believe in the power of positive thinking. Superstitiion is all about the power of negativity. |

Hi, Torsten and everybody. Many people in my country are superstitious: they fear black cats, people with dark eyes, the number 13. Some years ago I was quite superstitious. For example I tried to predict the future with the help of cards and coffee. My friend called me stupestitious. Now I still have some habits which help me to keep calm when something is going wrong. I spit three times after I have said something that may 'put the evil eye' and look into a mirror when I have to return. As for 13, that's my mother's and my cousin's birthday. _________________ I am an incurable optimist. |

Dear Mr. Torsten, Goodmorning to you.
Thank you for your English Lesson no. 13. You asked me whether I am Superstitious ? Regarding No. 13 I am . I don't like no. 13. Without any reason I don't like to do good things on 13th. Many unexpected, negative things happened on 13th. So I don't do any auspicious things on this date. It is my own feeling. I don't know why ?
Mr. Torsten, what about you ? I would also like to hear from you.
Regarding the test and lessons I will write later.
Good day to you.
Regards Rani |

Yes, I am superstitious but that is not about superstitions written in books or popular in society for example I find no. 13 is lucky for me as my parents got married on this date. My superstitions are accumulated by my own experiences, like, when I see black dog in the morning, I find it lucky, also if something unusual happen to me I expect some good news in near future. |
