No, I’m not superstitious at all. The only thing I sometimes do is touch wood (or my head) when using the corresponding expression, which is almost a reflex action. I believe, though, that the mind can be extremely powerful and tricky and that we can, subconsciously or not, make things happen with our thoughts.
Let’s (try to) think positively!
PS: Just to show off a bit: do you know that if you are afraid of the number 13 you suffer from triskaidekaphobia? |

Well, teacher Conchita,I'm not quite superstitious :D. But I don't want to take a risk. You know, some people in my country are superstitious. When something bad happens to them, they do everything as possible as they can just to bring back the luck. When a traffic accident occures unexpectedly in front of their house, they will throw a hand of rice right over there because they believe that it will bring them good luck back again.
I think there are quite a lot more superstitions in the world like a black cat and a broken mirror...Dare you walk under a ladder? :D Just some ideas.... _________________ If you want to change the world, be one of the change. |

What a coincidence! Your birthday is the same day that I'm scheduled to officially sell my house, Herc. Let's hope that Friday the 13th brings some good luck this year! _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

So, what about Friday the 13th? How do you handle it? Do you take any precautions or do you just treat it like any other day?

. Nope, I don't take any precautions. However, should anything go miserably wrong (or even slightly wrong, for that matter), it will of course be blamed entirely on the date. _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

| No precautions taken from my part either. Even yesterday after being reminded about the date there was a complete jettison of any superstition associated with it.   |

Hi, I'm Souad from Algeria . Supperstitious ? Iam not . I believe in reason and what my mind tells me to believe in . I believe in GOD the founder of us whose will upon us is to work then to get the results. I do not believe in metaphysical explanations nor I accept to run my life acording to numbers or some normal expressions . What do you think? yours, Souad. |

well, I'm not superstitious cause of my conception of life. As I'm concerned, human being live accordind a destiny already made by GOD. It would be naturel if something bad or good happened to you. That is the meaning of life, the mixture of misfortune and good fortune. This is my point of view about superstition.

Dear Torsten,
About the question if I am superstitious, I dare say that I have some believes in superstitions, and there are some witches around the world, specially in full moon nights of winter seasons.
I guess the number 13 is a magic number. Look it: being 13 = 1 and 3; and 1 + 3 = 4 I can make 4 x 3 + 1 that is 13. The number 1 represents a line or a boundary of your life; 3 acts as if were a triangle or a holy trinity , and 4 as though a square, the stage that you play your roles of living. The number 13 is compounded by 1, 3 and 4.
So, these conclusions are not just coincidences, but the power of the number 13. I'ts intersting, Isn't it?
That's the way it is.

Hi,
About superstitious? Maybe I'm partially superstitious one.Let's me give you an example.
As you know I'm the Vietnamese so our religion is affected by the Chinese. That's why the belief in fate is a bit serious. Many people think that in order to get marriage, year of birth of the two lovers must be suitable with each other, otherwise their life in future will not be smooth even they cannot have a baby.
For this matter, I'm very confused but I have heard from many elders that this is true. |

Hi, I think I'm a bit superstitious. And I aslo agree with smilling opinion about the Vietnamese customs. I'd like to give you one more example of this one. In my country, Vietnam, before people have their houses built, most of them go to fotune teller or read some books to choose some good days to start breaking the land, and people expect it will bring good luck for them if they do that. Anyway I think it's also good :) |

Hi Smilinq09, :) Do you really believe in such superstitions or you are just scared about it ? In my opinion, it is just a matter of fear and weakness that our parents put inside of us from our childhood . The same thing hapened to them from their childhood, too. We have the fear something will happen to us if we do not believe in such superstitions , that's all, and it has nothing to do with reality. So, the problem is inside of us not outside. I think that, by this way of abnormal believes, we don't give the opportunity to our minds to work. So, let's free our minds.. that's nature.. and we're not allowed to be against nature . The power is GOD and GOD orders us to work, to think and to be good and so to succeed . May I tell you something ? In my childhood, my mother was always telling such things ( eg: don't eat this part of meat, don't wash clothes on Friday, don't throw hot water in the WC ...etc), but for each time my question was "why?" and her answer was " it's like that!", and my answer again :"I'm not convinced ,mum ". A child is known by his logic so, how about us? Yours, Souad. :) |
