Why is it "I want you TO tell me ..." and not "I want you tell me ...".

Many thanks in advance,
Francesco

Hello Francesco,

Some verbs take 'to' and others don't, that is all:

I want you to move.
I asked him to move.
I would like us to move.

I helped them move.
I saw her move.
I made him move.

And some verbs take '-ing' also or instead:

I saw her moving.
I heard her moving.

Hahaha... I got it right because of watching movies. During court scenes, there's always this standard sequence where the question is posed to the witness, "Do you swear to tell the truth, the WHOLE truth and nothing but the truth, so help you God?".

In the fixed phrase, 'the whole truth', 'whole' means 'complete, all'.

whole - all of it.

'real truth' is an unnecessary phrase. Either it is the truth or it isn't.
