Dear Teachers,

Could you please see the sentence below and explain me which is the error in the sentence?

Leading scientists are often the kinds of person who have enjoyed intellectual challenges all their lives.

Thanks in advance.

It looks like a mess. Here is one solution:

Leading scientists are often the kind of people who have enjoyed intellectual challenges all their lives.

Hi Teacher, :D

Thank you for error identification. But right there is it possible to say "the kinds of persons"?? :D Why do you use "a singular noun" of "kind of" here?

To be honest, I'm not comfortable with the sentence at all, but it seems to me that 'people who have enjoyed intellectual challenges all their lives' = one kind of people. The same could be said of scientists.

Hi, MM
Since you feel uncomfortable with that sentence, Would you like to use other way to express it?? Just make it sound "comfortable" ,
P.S: Leading scientists are often the kind of people who enjoy/ have enjoyed ....... all their lives?

Oh, I don't know-- why don't we cast it in the singular, for instance?--

A leading scientist is often the kind of person who has enjoyed intellectual challenges all his or her life.
