TOEFL essay topic

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers.

Parents play the most important role in the growing up of their children. In my opion, despite some very good characteristics parents have, they can’t be the best teachers of their children.

First of all, parents are able to have knowledge in some fields, but not all the fields. It is not true that parents know everything in the world. Sometimes, they just have a passing acquaintance of some subjects. They shouldn’t teach their children something that they don’t know thoroughly. For example, a very famous physicist can’t teach his children chemistry though he is very good at physics because his knowledge of chemistry isn’t enough to teach his children. So that’s why parents always search for good teachers to teach their children what they need to learn rightly.

Secondly, parents want to teach their children by their ways. They are right, and they are wrong sometimes. For those who aren’t be educated how to be good teachers, it might be a very big problem. They can be good parents, but hardly good teachers. For instance, it’s not simply to tell children what they should do and what they shouldn’t. If the children don’t follow, their parents might get angry. In that case, they lose their control, and they just want their children to obey them without any decent explanation for their behavior. Parents should help their children be aware of the wrong and the right in order that they will know why their parents want them to follow their advice.

Thirdly, parents are easy to be wrong in educating their children in that they have much emotion. Under their eyes, their children are obviously the best ones. They praise their children and encourage them to keep doing things though under other eyes, the children should stop behaving like that. Consequently, parents should be strict and thoughtful in some situation. As children don’t acknowlege which is right and wrong, they do anything they like. Parents should always watch on their children and guide them to do the right instead of letting them do whatever they want.

In brief, parents aren’t always good teachers though they might be good parents. To be good teachers, it is the way they educate their children which they should be concerned with rather than the way they love their children.

Hi,

My suggestions are in CAPITAL letters:

Quote:
Parents play the most important role in the growing up/BRINGING UP of their children. In my opiNIon, despite some very good characteristics parents have, they can’t be the best teachers of their children.

So that’s why parents always search for good teachers to teach their children what they need to learn rightly/PROPERLY.

Secondly, parents want to teach their children by their ways/EXAMOLE. They are right, and they are wrong sometimes. For those who aren’t (be) educated how to be good teachers, it might be a very big problem. They can be good parents, but hardly good teachers. For instance, it’s not simply to tell/TELLING children what they should do and what they shouldn’t. If the children don’t follow, their parents might get angry. In that case, they lose their control/TEMPER, and they just want their children to obey them without any decent explanation for their behavior. Parents should help their children be aware of the wrong and the right/OF RIGHT AND WRONG in order that they will know why their parents want them to follow their advice.

Thirdly, parents are easy to/CAN EASILY BE be wrong in educating their children in that they have much/A LOT OF emotion. Under/IN their eyes, their children are obviously the best ones. They praise their children and encourage them to keep doing things though under/IN other PEOPLE'S eyes, the children should stop behaving like that. Consequently, parents should be strict and thoughtful in some situationS. As children don’t acknowlege/RECOGNIZE which/WHAT is right and wrong, they do anything they like. Parents should always watch (on) their children and guide them to do the right THING instead of letting them do whatever they want.

In brief, parents aren’t always good teachers though they might be good parents. To be good teachers, it is the way they educate their children, which they should be concerned with rather than the way they love their children.

Whoa for that kind of essay, I would definitely give it somewhere between 4.5 to 5 out of 5. Except for a couple of grammar mistakes, the thesis, supporting ideas, and the overall conclusion were excellent. I do not think that you should worry about your marks.
However, if you are one of those perfectionist freaks, I would totally recommend writing essays about a variety of topics that you find interesting, and share the essays with as many people as possible. Listen to their comments, and if you think that they might improve you writing skills, try to keep them in you mind as you write the nest essay. However, if you think that they are just getting in the way of your unique writing style, just ignore them.
Secondly, read a lot of books and by books I mean interesting books. You don't have to read professional 1000-page manuscripts or whatever, but even a simple fiction novel can work; just whatever that fascinates you.
Lastly, try to increase your vocabulary. The more vocabulary you know by heart, the more freedom you get when your writing.

Good luck and keep up your awesome writing. Are you gonna take the TOEFL test? I'm pretty sure you'll get 100 or higher.

Parents: the best teachers and the best education? Sun Jun 15, 2008 20:35 pm  Parents: the best teachers and the best education?

In child education, parent's role is the most important from the birth up to the maturity. From parents, children learn everything, once they spend most of their childhood's time together. Defined here as informal education, parent's legacy makes part of the education gained by children when they are not in school. When they are in school, children receive another kind of education, the formal one.

Informal education is totally within the parent's responsibility: where the child goes around, who the child plays with, when the child takes meals, and so on. Even the minor child's habit is under the parent's supervision. For this reason they guide the child's behavior, molding him/her with the same education - either good or bad. Familiar education is the most important key to understand the maintenance of prejudices and psychosocial profiles. Thus, parent's education is traditional and conservative, and sometimes is not perfectly synchronized with social changes. As children inherit this education, they can be under circumstances for which they're not prepared.

In another hand, formal education prepare the child for professional life, and this is the result of the increase of the different types of occupations. A long time ago, children had the same job as their parents, but this situation has changed. This responsibility is not anymore under parent's hands. Another very important function of the formal education is to role, as an important player, to achieve social targets, guiding the chances on society. The most difficult is the situation to be changed, the hardest must be the efforts at school. A great current example is the Environmentally Friend Consciousness, in which school have been developed a very important role. Schools also have fill the lack due to non-present parents, who many times have jobs which take all day long. Cases in which children spend much more than half day in school due to parent's nonavailability are more and more common.

There is no doubt that parents are the best teachers, and this must be on top of mind in creating and adapting educational programs and social studies. Society organizations (government, universities, companies, political parties, ...) might keep their eyes opened to social changes to allow the correct formal education's answer to the current challenges on social organization.
