There’s a continuing debate in English usage about when you should use who and when to use whom. According to the rules of formal grammar, who should be used in the subject position in a sentence, while whom should be used in the object position, and also after a preposition. For example:
Who made this decision? [here, who is the subject of the sentence] Whom do you think we should support? [here, whom is the object of support] To whom do you wish to speak? [here, whom is following the preposition to] Some people do still follow these rules but there are many more who never use whom at all. The normal practice in current English is to use who in all contexts, i.e.: Who do you think we should support? Who do you wish to speak to?

Hi Deliya,
Although technically 'who' is subject and 'whom' is object, in ordinary speech the 'm' tends to get lost or disappear. It is most commonly used and heard when this relative pronoun is in a stressed position immediately after a preposition as in: From whom did you get that letter?

That's much better, Sonja. Only these need correction:
What day is it today? Where are they all? When are we going to the cinema? Why can I not (can't I) go on vacation? How can I improve my English?
Remember that in the question structure the verb and noun/pronoun aften change places. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hi Csaabaa,
Apart from the space incorrectly placed before the question mark in this question:
| Quote: |
| When do you usually get up ? |
your sentences are fine. _________________ Cheers m' dears! |

Hello everyone,
What do you do in your free time? Where does her parents live? Which colour is his favourite? When does the train arrive? Whose is your favourite actor in Game of Thrones? How do live your life? Why are we here? Why is she sad?
That's all for now.
P.S.: Why don't you have another topic for verb tenses? Past Simple, Past Perfect etc. |
