Hi Tamara,
Yes, that's perfectly all right. President Smith of Nomansland or you can say; The Nomansland President, John Smith.

I know and use both these forms, thank you.
But what about the possessive Russian's President? _________________ It’s impossible to learn swimming without entering the water… |

You probably mean Russia's President? Seems to be more informal than the President of Russia.

Yes, Russia's President, sorry for the typo.
Thanks.
Could anybody put the above possibilities in order on the level of 'formality'? _________________ It’s impossible to learn swimming without entering the water… |

Hi Tamara
I'd put them in order this way (my personal opinion):
President Vladimir Putin of Russia Russian President, Vladimir Putin Russian President Vladimir Putin Russian President Putin Russia's President Pootie-Poot 8)
How's that? ;) _________________ "Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power." ~ Abraham Lincoln |

Thanks, Amy, I like your list.
Probably, I'd also add Mr. Pootie Poot for English speakers... and some very informal expressions - for Russian ones :) _________________ It’s impossible to learn swimming without entering the water… |
