Do you keep the hard copies of the posts? Sun Oct 22, 2006 22:45 pm  Do you keep the hard copies of the posts?

Hello everybody

Without any preamble--I have started to keep the hard copies of all the posts now. In fact, the avalanche of posts is going from strong to stronger and keeping track of all the posts is becoming very difficult. ( I wonder how Conchita and Amy are able to do that always!) If any new question, even in the least sense, has any link to some thread of say six months ago, they are able to resurrect it. On the other hand, if I have to find some of my posts answered by Amy, I go to her profile, click on All posts by Amy, and then try to find my post. This way, I end up consuming a lot of my time and energy.

But, let's return to our muttons! Very Happy

Keeping the hard copy, though very expensive, is also very helpful. I just recently realised that I was fast losing my relationship with page. But, now I will make it a point to keep full record of all the posts. What about you? Does anyone of you keep the hard copy of your posts? I have made five files and keeping the posts moderator wise! Shocked

My goodness, Tom! You're going to end up buried. Are you saying that you print each post in each thread separately?

To be honest, Amy, yes. And there are files and files in my room. Laughing You know what, reading the posts in a book form, crouching in my bed with a cup of coffee, is a lot more helpful. Things absorb a lot faster there than they do on screen. Had I read Alan's stories on screen only, I think, I would not have been able to enjoy them as much as I enjoyed them in my bed with tea. Very Happy I hope no one is jealous! Laughing Wink

Tom

PS I have started to lose track of posts even in the hard copy.

Now, which is it, Tom? Coffee or tea? Or do you have a cup in each hand while you're reading in bed? Laughing

I imagine the hard copy search function could become a tad cumbersome. Wink

Depends on mood, Amy. Otherwise, I prefer tea to coffee with the exception of extremely cold nights.

Hi, Amy

I wouldn't say that the whole essence of this forum will take up too much space on an HDD, in fact, text information is pretty small and, besides, you can compress it, like 10% on average. So, don't worry about Tom's HDD - it will survive an avalanche of information this seemingly big Smile

Hi, Tom

No, I don't make copies of my posts. Although, I do treasure every advice I get and even write it down in my textbook (you know, if you get some information down with a pen, you will remember more)
As a programmer, I can advise you to use not the file system to store the posts, but a database (Microsoft SQL for example) - if properly organized, it is way more effective in finding posts you're looking for than the file system.

PS: Your idea ahs gotten into my head...maybe I even will store some of the posts in my database at leisure.

I have kept a few copies of some posts I find important to keep track of. I can't keep all the hard copies of every post like you. Shocked Rolling Eyes

Yes, doing like Alex is nice too, writing down every advice you encounter. Laughing

I don’t have printed copies of the threads but I have a skit of posts neatly filed in a folder on PC. Mostly I sail through all the new posts online, Tom, and take advantage of Slava’s search engine right along to find the required thread. But you are a treasure trove for us-- failing some threads/posts as a result of hacking you can come straight away to lend a helping hand. Laughing Wink
