To chew vs. to swallow #2 (permalink) Fri Oct 27, 2006 21:50 pm   To chew vs. to swallow

To chew is to make something soft with your teeth: this meat is too tough to chew.

To swallow is to make (food/liquid) pass down your throat from your mouth to the stomach: I have swallowed a fly; he swallowed his dinner and went out -- he ate his dinner quickly.
