TOEFL Essay topic
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Distance learning & online computer classes should replace classroom learning. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer

TOEFL Essay sample response

In my opinion classroom learning should not be replaced by distance learning and online computer classes. I believe that it will have hinder studies beacuse of the three reasons stated below.

Firstly, a classroom creates an enviornment of learning. While a student is attending a class s/he learns how to behave in an appropriate manner, how to make friends and interact with people. Such learning is not possible in distance learning or online courses as the individual would probably sit home and not interact with people.

Secondly, students will not be exposed to the same information equally through distance learning courses. For example, in a classroom the teacher decides the important areas of study and imparts the same knowledge to all the students, though the way each student absorbs information is different. The teacher can also identify learning issues with particular students and provide support. Such an enviornment is absent in distance learning programs as the students are left on their own to study and have to develop the necessary skills alone.

Finally, though online computer programs are very helpful, they may not be accessible to all students. For example, some families are unable to afford a computer, in such a case an online course cannot be regarded as a subsitute to classroom learning.

Thus, classroom learning is irreplacable and comparable benefits cannot be obtained through distance learning and online computer programs.

Such learning is not possible in distance learning or online courses as the individual would probably sit (AT) home and not interact with people.

A good piece of writing

Distance learning a viable source #5 (permalink) Fri Nov 06, 2009 17:31 pm   Distance learning a viable source

I believe that distance learning as a viable source of learning, in this age, when people are moving towards the technological advancements, online education is a very constructive step as online degree programs will generally provide more freedom to the students than traditional schools degree programs in terms of that online schools or colleges offer an online curriculum and give students the chance to work on their own from anywhere in the world, all they need is a computer and an internet connection.

More over due to the economic recession experienced through out the world and every day increment in the number of lay offs, the increased unemployment has diverted people back to education. Today education is all that counts, long gone the days when experience alone and many years of work in a field or company could somehow take you to the top of the ladder. That is why even employed people are seeking education through distance learning courses, so that they could get advance degrees while pursuing their jobs, to get promoted to higher posts in the organization they are working for.
