How do you find 'relevant' old threads? #1 (permalink) Sat Oct 28, 2006 21:03 pm   How do you find 'relevant' old threads?

Hi

I suppose with hundreads of being here in the forum all the time, every one of us adopts a different methodology to find relevant old threads. I would very much like to know what is yours? Do you resort to Google? Or do you go into your inbox and check each mail one by one? Or do you go to the profile of that spicific moderator(s) who contributed in that thread and check the posts there one by one? You may have some better way to find the old posts which have some link with the 'newly asked question'? Amy and Conchita seem to be exceptionally good at that--so, I would certainly like to hear from them also.

Tom

PS Please don't move this thread to Feedback and Comments.

Hi Tom

The search function doesn't always work that well on the forum. I seem to remember something being written about Slava working on improving that, though.

But I do think that learning how to use the "right" search words is critical. Also, I often remember who has asked what, so I do a search with forum member name combined with key word(s).

  If there is one thing I am not really very happy with in the forum, it is its search function.Never seems to be helping! It even sometimes does not seem to accept the name of the thread. Try for example, 'First time versus For the first time'.

See??

Hi Tom, as Amy said Slava is working on improving the search feature. Have you have seen a system that is 'perfect'? Changes have to be made constantly. By the way, if you want to find a certain thread in the forum, you should use the Google search box on top of each page and tick the "English-test.net" option. This tool is excellent and very precise. Just try it out!

Regards,
Torsten

Hi Torsten

Try to find this your post with the tool. For example, with
Quote:
Slava is working on improving the search feature

or with other string at your choice.

Just try…

OK, all we need is a little more time. We had to disable the search function because our forum got attacked by hackers. As a result, Google has indexed only 30% of our forum pages. We do want as many people as possible to find our forum pages but at the same time we want to make sure that our forum is hacker safe. If you give us a little more time you soon will be able to enjoy an excellent search tool.

Thanks for your understanding and feedback.
