Hi,

This question has now been rumbling on for over three years now about the use of continuous constructions with verbs describing the senses. The point is that 'hear'' apart from its first meaning referring to the sense used by the ears, has also another life, as it were, when it means 'learn about'. Exactly the same is true of another such verb 'see'. We can say: John and Sally have been seeing each other quite a lot recently where 'see' suggests that they are going out together/dating. When these verbs take on another meaning as with the examples 'hear' and 'see' show, the continuous form is perfectly acceptable as with any other verb.

Dear Mr. Alan/Torsten

"since" is used to show particular time in the past until a later time, or until now

and "for" is used for not a specific time.

and these are mostly used with Present Perfect continuous/Past Perfect continuous

Can we use them with simple present continuous tenses or any other sentence or they are just specified with (Present Perfect continuous/Past Perfect continuous)

Thanks in advance

Well, Present Perfect would be I have heard. The tense you are referring to is Present Perfect Continuous (or Present Perfect Progressive): I have been hearing.

i think your answer is wrong.

No, Mohammad, Torsten's verb forms are perfectly correct. Please be sure of your grammar before you start posting answers or correcting other members' posts.

I see that this is your first post here. As do all forum sites, we suggest that new members spend a little time browsing through our forums and reading a lot of threads before they start posting themselves.

Thank you.

Hi Torsten
It was very interesting, how can I know a bit more about present perfect, present perfect passive, present continuous passive and the differences between them?

Thanks in advance

This is a very general question, Mahak, and one that we cannot answer in depth here. If you do a google search for each of those phrases, you will find a lot of explanation and examples, as for instance HERE and HERE.

I don't believe that there is anything more to tell you, then, unless you have specific questions about specific sentences or contexts.
