Can I say "Image and Sound" as a fixed expression? #1 (permalink) Wed Nov 08, 2006 13:48 pm   Can I say "Image and Sound" as a fixed expression?

I have a problem with one expression in English. There is a very interesting vocational Training in my country which is termed "image and Sound" I don't know if it is a literal translation from my language, what I can tell you is that it involves people working in the Media Industry, especially regarding Photography and sound. Can you help me translate this expression??? I think it's too literal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Vanesa

Your idea of saying "image and sound" sounds fine to me.

A few further ideas using the word "media": "digital media" or "digital art" or "audio and video media"

Hi,

I think I know what you mean. Unfortunately I can't think of an English expression because we resort to the French expression, which defies a decent translation into English:

Son et Lumiere

I also thought of this interpretation at first. But I only know the meaning of 'son et lumi?re' as a sound and light show, usually in historical sites.

The degree course Vanesa refers to seems to take different names, according to the school or university -- Film and Television, Television and Radio, Film and New Media, Broadcasting, etc.
