Hi Che
Quote:
What makes you think I'm novice on the internet ?
Just the fact that the vast majority of people with whom I happen to communicate by using Internet definitely knew what тред/thread means. Even though many of them never learn English. Smile

In fact, this is a word from the international ‘Internet language’.

Quote:
could you please explain the meanin of the word (thread) in Russian ?
Shocked Smile Smile

OK. All for you Smile
The same definition – now from the Russian Wikipedia Smile
Quote:
Тред (англ. thread — нить) в интернет-форумах, блогах, списках рассылки, конференциях — последовательность ответов на сообщение. Сообщения могут быть cвязаны в тред, по нескольким параметрам: уникальному идентификатору, дате, теме.

Hi Che, originally I'm from the German side of Ore Mountains near the Czech border. Now I live in Leipzig. Have you heard of that city? What about you, you said you are from Tbilisi, what you like about your place? I have a friend who was born and raised in Gory. By the way, I know a couple of words in Georgian. This means, I can pronounce them but I can't write them...

Hi Konstantin

online:
http://www.onelook.com/ - in fact, this is a dictionary website that covers a set of good dictionaries
http://www.bartleby.com/61/ - American Heritage Dictionary

In addition to dictionaries, I strongly recommend you to google a word - to see how it is actually used. And by whom. Smile
Also it’s useful to have a look at some examples of its ‘proper’ use in BNC (British National Corpus) http://www.natcorp.ox.ac.uk/

To be honest, I sometimes use http://multitran.ru/ (Russian-English multi-dictionary system) Smile
But be careful with it.
Its (descriptive) definitions are generally OK, but I had many cases when native English speakers (even ESOL teachers Smile ) didn’t accept (even didn’t understand Smile) examples it gives. Neither as BrE, nor as AmE. Smile

Che

Given the name of your country, I figured I could get you into college football (American football) by showing you a team you could cheer for:

Hi Torsten

I'd say Tom has soccer on the brain... Laughing I'm duly amazed that he's acquainted with the names of some German players. Very Happy
