"Not being able to use ‘Danish’ or any other demonym as a comparative is also debatable" - wrote Conchita in an old topic.
demonym - I don't know this world. Is it just playing upon words imitating "homonym", "synonym", "antonym"?

Hi

Quote:
A demonym or gentilic is a word that denotes the members of a people or the inhabitants of a place. Often the name of a people's language is the same as this word, e.g., the "French" (language or people). Some places, particularly smaller cities and towns may not have an established word for their residents; toponymists have a particular challenge in researching these. See also ethnonym.

From: Demonym @ Wikipedia (there are also examples of demonyms in English on that page)

I recently had dealings with demonyms as can be seen in a thread from a couple of days ago. Smile
For definitions of other -onyms and generally types of words see Category:Types of words@Wikipedia

Regards,
Stanislav

Hi, and thanks a lot.
I see now. It means - name of a person of an ethnic group (from Gr. demos "people"). I was aware of others (like ethnonym, toponym etc.) but this. Thank you for providing the site, also. It's very informative.
