what the difference between "myself" and "by myself"?

are both sentences correct?

1) I?ll do it by myself
2) I?ll do it myself

and in combination with the impersonal "one" ?

3) one can solve such problems (by) her/him/it(?)-self

thks!

Use of myself/himself/itself Mon Nov 13, 2006 4:11 am  Use of myself/himself/itself

Hi Alexzive Very Happy

Both of them are correct and have the same meaning, that is, I'll do it alone. But they have different meanings too.

1) I?ll do it by myself = I'll do it alone without others' help
2) I?ll do it myself = I am the person who will do it, not others.

Here is the extra info:

Did it myself vs. Did it by myself

3) One can solve such problems (by) oneself/ himself/herself/themselves. (not itself)

Using the preposition "by" or not is like 1) and 2)

Just an idea

Hi Jupiter,

Thank you very much for your explanation about such subtile difference, I could never have understood "by myself". Correct? Wink
