Wow ... have to tell you that my wife can write volumes about the sounds I make after certain foods but I don't know of anybody who makes any particular oral sound while eating chillies. At least, not any sound that has a descriptive word in English.....

It's funny... in Gaelic, there is apparently a word that describes the unique sensation that affects the upper lip just after taking a sip of whiskey so I imagine that other cultures have food related expressions that have no English equivalent.

You may have a word in mind that has no counterpart in English.

Might be a hiccup... I know I've suffered from post-pepper hiccups.

The Mayans, at least, have a word for this -- they call it 'huuyub', which means 'to draw breath with a puckered mouth after eating chillies'. In true Mayan fashion, a whole sentence is condensed into a single word.

Sorry for the off-topic.
Just to say that while reading this thread, I've found strange that in Russian that special sound C-C that (some) people automatically produce when struck with sharp and unexpected pain, - for example, when get burned or cut their finger - is rather incorrectly called to hiss (of? in?) pain.
Even though in this case C-C is made by drawing an air into the mouth, whereas hissing is normally produced with outward breath.

Hmm... There is no exact word for that. Interesting.
