I'd be interested in hearing from anybody who has used any available courses for learning Turkish. I'm an absolute beginner, interested in acquiring good spoken Turkish although I'd also to be able to read newspapers.

Thanks and best wishes all round

The US Foreign Service Institute (FSI) Turkish course. It's expensive, and a lot of drill, but by the end of the two levels you should be pretty fluent. The US government sells it directly, but only on cassette. There are retailers that sell it on CD. Here's the URL for one of them:

If you combine it with some reading and writing practice, you'll really know a lot of Turkish.
