Amy

The author of thy poem is Ambrose Bierce.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Come live with me, and be my love,
And we will some new pleasures prove
Of golden sands, and crystal brooks,
With silken lines and silver hooks.

There will the river whisp'ring run
Warm'd by thy eyes, more than the sun ;
And there th' enamour'd fish will stay,
Begging themselves they may betray.

When thou wilt swim in that live bath,
Each fish, which every channel hath,
Will amorously to thee swim,
Gladder to catch thee, than thou him.

If thou, to be so seen, be'st loth,
By sun or moon, thou dark'nest both,
And if myself have leave to see,
I need not their light, having thee.

Let others freeze with angling reeds,
And cut their legs with shells and weeds,
Or treacherously poor fish beset,
With strangling snare, or windowy net.

Let coarse bold hands from slimy nest
The bedded fish in banks out-wrest ;
Or curious traitors, sleeve-silk flies,
Bewitch poor fishes' wand'ring eyes.

For thee, thou need'st no such deceit,
For thou thyself art thine own bait :
That fish, that is not catch'd thereby,
Alas ! is wiser far than I.

Excellent, Conchita! I've heard that Donne wrote "The Bait" as a satire on/of Marlowe's (right?) original version.

------------------------------------------

Conchita's poem was written by Richard Armour

------------------------------------------

Give all to love;
Obey thy heart;
Friends, kindred, days,
Estate, good-fame,
Plans, credit and the Muse,
Nothing refuse.
'T is a brave master;
Let it have scope:
Follow it utterly,
Hope beyond hope:
High and more high
It dives into noon,
With wing unspent,
Untold intent;
But it is a god,
Knows its own path
And the outlets of the sky.

It was never for the mean;
It requireth courage stout.
Souls above doubt,
Valor unbending,
It will reward,
They shall return
More than they were,
And ever ascending.

Leave all for love;
Yet, hear me, yet,
One word more thy heart behoved,
One pulse more of firm endeavor,
Keep thee to-day,
To-morrow, forever,
Free as an Arab
Of thy beloved.

Cling with life to the maid;
But when the surprise,
First vague shadow of surmise
Flits across her bosom young,
Of a joy apart from thee,
Free be she, fancy-free;
Nor thou detain her vesture's hem,
Nor the palest rose she flung
From her summer diadem.

Though thou loved her as thyself,
As a self of purer clay,
Though her parting dims the day,
Stealing grace from all alive;
Heartily know,
When half-gods go,
The gods arrive.

Ralph Waldo Emerson
_______________________________________________________

    You'll remember me when the west wind moves
    Among the fields of barley
    You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
    When we walked in fields of gold

    So she took her love for to gaze awhile
    Among the fields of barley
    In his arms she fell as her hair came down
    Among the fields of gold

    Will you stay with me will you be my love
    Among the fields of barley
    And you can tell the sun in his jealous sky
    When we walked in fields of gold

    I never made promises lightly
    And there have been some that I've broken
    But I swear in the days still left
    We will walk in fields of gold
    We'll walk in fields of gold

    I never made promises lightly
    And there have been some that I've broken
    But I swear in the days still left
    We will walk in fields of gold
    We'll walk in fields of gold

    Many years have passed since those summer days
    Among the fields of barley
    See the children run as the sun goes down
    As you lie in fields of gold

    You'll remember me when the west wind moves
    Among the fields of barley
    You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
    When we walked in fields of gold
    When we walked in fields of gold
    When we walked in fields of gold

Did Sting actually write that?

I know it was put to music by him, anyway.

I'll wait for an affirmation before posting another poem.

Yes, Tom, Sting wrote the song. That was Eva Cassidy's version. Maybe you know that Sting cried the first time he heard her sing it (or so I've heard).

I'm surprised that Sting cried, or can cry, given his tantric skills. hehe

-----------------------------

I can make anybody pretty
I can make you believe any lie
I can make you pick a fight
With somebody twice your size

I been known to cause a few break ups
I been known to cause a few births
I can make you new friends
Or I can make you say bad words

1st Chorus
And since the day I left Milwaukee
Lynchburg and Bordeaux France
Been making the bars lots of big money
And helping white people dance
I got you in trouble in high school
But college, now that was a ball
You had some of the best times
You'll never remember with me
Alcohol
Alcohol

I got blamed at your wedding reception
For your best man's embarrassing speech
And also for those
Naked pictures of you at the beach

I've influenced kings and world leaders
I helped Hemmingway write like he did
And I'll bet you a drink or two that I can make you
Put that lampshade on your head

2nd Chorus
'Cause since the day I left Milwaukee
Lynchburg and Bordeaux France
Been making a fool out of folks just like you
And helping white people dance
I'm medicine and I am poison
I can help you up or make you fall
You had some of the best times
You'll never remember with me
Alcohol

hehe :)) (copyrights if necessary)
that's indeed a good one :) by Brad Paisley, the title is pretty straightforward, though!

here we go:

---------------------------------------------

Don’t shed a tear for me, I stand alone
This path of destiny is all my own
Once in the hands of fate, there is no choice
An echo on the wind, you’ll hear my voice

Some choose to fall behind, some choose to lead
Some choose a golden path, laden with greed
But it’s the noble heart that makes you strong
And in that part I’m with you all along

The old village lantern is calling me onwards
Leading wherever I go
The old village lantern, a light in the dark
Bringing me closer to home

So when you think of me, do so with pride
Honour and bravery rode by my side
And in your memory, I will remain
I will forever be, within the flame

Now at the journey’s end, we’ve travelled far
And all we have to show are battle scars
But in the love we share, we will transcend
And in that love, our journey never ends

Don’t shed a tear for me, I stand alone
This path of destiny is all my own
Once in the hands of fate, there is no choice
An echo on the wind, you’ll hear my voice
