Hi Maria Fe, many thanks for joining our TOEFL community. What exactly do you mean 'total number of items in the TOEFL iBT test'? Are you referring to the total number of test questions? You might want to read this article about the TOEFL to get an overview of the exam: TOEFL Description http://www.english-test.net/articles/65/
Also, in order to answer your second question, I need to know why you want to pass the TOEFL and what score you want to achieve?
Speak to you soon, Torsten

The number of sections and their sequence is fixed. They are:
* Reading * Listening * Speaking * Writing
Reading contains3 to 6 passages, 20 minutes each. However some of them may be combined (2 passages, 40 minutes). Each passage contains around 12-14 questions. The last question in each passage is worth more than 1 point.
I got 9 recordings in the Listening section, divided into three separately timed packages of 1 dialog + 2 lectures. Each package had 17 questions and 10 minutes available to answer. The time is stopped while you are listening.
(note: you may get, for example, only 3 recordings in the listening section, however there will be 6 passages in the reading section...)
Speaking has 6 questions: 1. talk about your experience on some topic 2. you're given 2 options on a subject. talk about which option you prefer. 3, 4, 5, 6. readi to a passage and listen to a converstaion/lecture. Speak about what you have heard and read.
Writing consists of two parts: a. integrated writing: read a passage, then listen to a lecture. write an essay (20 minutes) about how the lecture supports/contradicts to the passage. The passage is on the screen while you are typing. b. independent writing - you are given a rather controversial topic and 20 minutes. any questions? ;) _________________ my game is fair play |
