"An appointment board" vs "An appointments board"

What does "an appointment board" or "an appointments board" mean?

If there any difference between the two?

I'd say they're interchangeable and mean the same thing.

In the two expressions, the 'board' is a group of people. This group assigns people to positions, offices, jobs, etc.

Using the singlular (appointment) looks at the appointing of people as one general type of activity. Using the plural (appointments) looks at the appointing of people as a series of individual appointments.

I read those expressions and immediately thought of something similar to a notice board on which one recorded one's appointments. Yankee's response sounds more likely :)
